We Grow Flowers!
DEGOEYS NURSERY AND FLOWERS was founded in 1976
Starting out in 1976 as a fresh market field growers, owners John and Jane knew that farming was in their long time future! Being very aggressive and learning as they grew, while raising a family, they knew that growing flowers was a niche that they believed they could grow into! Building their 1st greenhouse in 1980 flowers was something that John knew he could sell! Building slowly through the years and developing new markets has been an adventure that John and Jane have conquered successfully with their children!
DEGOEYS NURSERY & FLOWERS is presently a 5.5 acre flower greenhouse farm with 5 acres of outside mum growing area along with 15 acres of locally grown cedars! They grow roughly 60,000 hanging baskets and a full line of bedding plants to complement their flower program. They operate 6 garden centers in the Essex Kent Region along with an outlet in Michigan. They are suppliers to many independents along with a few box store accounts! DeGoey’s Nursery and Flowers was voted as one of the best garden centers in Chatham- Kent region in May of 2013.
Graduate of Ridgetown college horticulture, Johnny DeGoey Jr. (Son) handles all the growing along with the shipping within the facility. Julie Mills (daughter) handles sales and purchasing/production. While their youngest son Paul DeGoey operates the logistics of Border City Freight, DeGoey's partner in top notch shipping expertise. Kyle Mills (Julie’s husband) is maintenance manager and deals with all international logistics. cross border shipments, export/import. John and Jane (Patriarchs’) are still involved in the business and continue to motivate and guide their children during daily coffee meetings! DeGoey’s Flowers employs up to 75 employees during peak seasons.
John and Jane have raised their children in a great environment that has allowed them to not only work well together but also has enabled them to create new markets and develop new products lines that have been very well received by their own retail and wholesale clients!
During the winter months they don’t grow poinsettias, instead they are one of the biggest suppliers in southwest Ontario and in the Michigan area for fresh evergreen planters, wreaths, garland and so much more.
DeGoey’s Flowers has set a goal to becoming a household name and fortunately with the dedication that the family has put forth they are accomplishing their goals along with being able to maintain a great family life in a thriving business! Following the belief that John DeGoey Sr. has stressed throughout the years “ IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH” and fortunately this unified strength has only made this family business stronger and ready to GROW!
